Sustainability and safety - responsibility for people and the environment

As a manufacturer and specialist retailer of work safety clothing, ASATEX AG has a dual responsibility: on the one hand, we must ensure that our protective clothing meets the highest safety standards. On the other hand, it is our duty to continuously reduce the environmental impact of our products and processes. We are aware of the challenges that the transition to sustainable processes entails. Nevertheless, we have the ambition to scrutinise existing solutions and develop sustainable alternatives - without compromising on quality and safety. Our journey is far from over, but we are setting new standards every day. Join us on this journey!

Our location: Green instead of grey

Sustainability starts right on our own doorstep. Our company premises in Bergheim are a green ecosystem with numerous trees, meadows and a pond. This environment not only creates a pleasant working environment, but also makes a valuable contribution to species conservation and the local microclimate.

  • Water management: Our large roof area collects up to 8,000 tonnes of rainwater per year. This water supplies our green spaces and flows into a pond that provides a habitat for frogs, fish and duck families.
  • Green electricity & energy efficiency: ASATEX AG is powered by 100% green electricity and our online shop is sustainably powered by hydropower.
  • Electromobility: employees can charge their electric and hybrid company vehicles at four charging points.
  • Waste separation & recycling: Both in the office and in the warehouse, we attach great importance to consistent waste separation in order to ensure optimal recycling - from coffee grounds to film and packaging waste.

Our product portfolio: Sustainability, a driver for innovation

In the occupational safety industry, sustainable materials must never come at the expense of the protective function. Our products must fulfil the highest standards - this presents us with challenges, but also drives our innovative strength.

  • Recycling instead of new production: We are increasingly focussing on recycled materials in order to conserve resources. One example is the HIT-RC fine knit glove and the HIT-RCC cut protection glove, which are made from recycled polyester.
  • Bioplastics made from renewable raw materials: Our CoverClean® Green coverall is made from corn starch and contains recycled zips and biodegradable packaging made from PLA film.
  • Less plastic, more sustainability: wherever possible, we reduce plastic as product protection and replace plastic packaging for gloves with sustainable paper banderoles.

Our supply chain: fair & transparent

As a globally active company, our responsibility does not end at our factory gates. We place high demands on our production sites and oblige them to comply with social and environmental standards.

  • Code of Conduct: Our business partners must adhere to our code of conduct, which categorically excludes forced labour, child labour and exploitation.
  • Membership of SEDEX: By participating in this global platform for sustainable supply chains, we promote transparency and ethical behaviour throughout the entire value chain.
  • Regular audits: Our producers are continuously assessed to ensure that they fulfil our sustainability requirements.
  • Determination of the ecological footprint: Using the SocialFair 2022 process, we have analysed our CO₂ emissions and developed strategies to reduce them.

Sustainable packaging & environmentally friendly shipping

Sustainability does not end with the product - packaging and shipping also play a crucial role. As the shipping of goods increases CO₂ emissions, we rely on environmentally friendly solutions.

  • Carbon-neutral shipping: We use the climate-friendly shipping programmes of our main shipping partners and support projects that offset the resulting CO₂ emissions.
  • Recyclable packaging: Our shipping packaging is made from recycled materials. Plastic and cardboard are professionally returned to the cycle.
  • Reduction of plastic packaging: Where possible, we avoid polybags or use sustainable alternatives such as PLA or bio-plastic. Only products that need to be protected from contamination remain packaged in standard polybags.

Sustainability in transition - responsibility with vision

The occupational safety industry is changing. Sustainable solutions are becoming increasingly important, but high safety requirements and strict regulations do not make change easy. As a traditional family-run company, we are taking on this challenge.

For us, sustainability is not a fad, but a long-term commitment. We are optimising our processes step by step - from the selection of environmentally friendly raw materials and innovative manufacturing processes to sustainable packaging and logistics.

We have already changed a lot, but our journey is not over yet. With every decision we make, we are shaping a more environmentally conscious future for our customers, our employees and future generations.
